Better than they get credit for
Review From: Rob Nelson, Feb 18, 2009
These headphones generally get bad reviews but my experience has been good. Since there were so many complaints, I decided to buy refurbs in the hope that what ever was wrong with so many of them was fixed and save some $$$ at the same time.If you want complete audiophile bliss then maybe these aren't for you. All I wanted to do is hear stereo, digital TV late at night without disturbing anyone else. I've got no complaints with these Sony MDR-RF970RK headphones. They far exceed my previous infrared Sony MDR-IF240R headphones that I could not stand. Specifically:They are LARGE, over the ear cups, but they stay on well (even when I fall asleep) and are comfortable. The automatic switch that turns them on when donned has worked well. If they do fall off, or I pull them off while sleeping, the battery charge is conserved because they shut off. Reception range has been more than adequate roaming the house, garage or patio up to 50 feet but I really haven't checked them further. They sure beat the line-of sight, extremely narrow reception angle Sony IR's mentioned above. The induction charging base has mated and charged everytime (unlike the contact charging IR's). It is a little slow to charge but charges last longer because of the auto-off feature. They do start cutting out when the charge is low, but if you need to keep listening you can pop in some AAA's easily to get by until returning the chargeable batteries and placing the unit in the charger\transmitter unit.Overall I have been very happy with these MDR-RF970RK.
