Five-CD Changer and Recorder with Little Room for Improvement
Review From: NexTag Editorial Review, Apr 14, 2005
The Sony RCDW500 features a dual deck with a five-CD changer and a recorder with 4x high-speed dubbing. The recorder uses Super Bit Mapping Recording to improve sound quality by reducing low-level background noise. The RCDW500 is able to record to CD- R/CD-RW discs and is compatible with audio CD, CD-R/RW, and MP3 CD discs for playback. The CD text feature allows users to enter title and track information. Additional features include one-touch recording, two-mode repeat, five playback modes, and 24- step program playback. The RCDW500's connectivity options include an SPDIF input, an SPDIF output, a headphone jack, an audio line input, and an audio line output to play and record to and from other audio sources. One main design flaw resides with the remote, as it has no On/Off button. Also, the user's manual is not very intuitive and rather confusing. However, once users understand the basic functionality of the device, playback and recording discs is almost effortless. Sony's RCDW500 is best suited for users looking to make duplicate CDs, compile personalized mixes, or even transfer music from older media (such as tape and LP) to disc.
